Tips for Finding the Best Online Source for Ford Parts

Sunday, December 7th, 2008

Whether you own a Crown Victoria, an F150 truck, or a sporty Mustang, it’s inevitable that you’ll need Ford parts at some point in your vehicle’s life. Maybe you’re a weekend mechanic, or perhaps you simply want to give your new Ford a personal touch. Either way, thanks to the Internet, you don’t have to rely on your local dealer to supply you with Ford genuine parts.

Indeed, you can take advantage of the reliability of Motorcraft parts with a few clicks of your mouse - and reap a number of benefits in the process. A positive online buying experience, however, depends upon finding the right online source for Ford motor parts and Ford accessories. Here five tips to help you find a reputable and dependable online parts distributor.

1. Stick with Genuine Ford Parts. Don’t mess around with car and truck parts that aren’t made specifically by Ford for Fords. It’s simply not worth the risk to your vehicle. Buying only Ford OEM parts will help ensure that your car or truck stays in top condition, and helps protect the integrity of any warranties on your vehicle.

2. Find the Right Price. Online distributors of Motorcraft parts don’t have the overhead expenses of your local dealership, so they should offer you wholesale or below wholesale prices. If the prices of the new ford car parts you find online aren’t lower than those you find locally, keep searching.

3. Quick Turnaround. If your car or truck needs a part, you don’t want to wait forever to have it shipped. The best online sources for Ford Car Parts have a huge inventory and ship within 24 hours of the time you place your order. Even if the online store doesn’t stock the part you ordered, they should be able to get it and ship it within that 24-hour window.

4. Shipping Policy. Make sure that the site has a clear shipping policy. It should offer less expensive ground shipments, as well as costlier second-day and next-day shipments. Typically, shipping costs are calculated as a percentage of the total order, with a minimum shipping charge. Because some Ford OEM parts are oversized or heavy, expect to pay extra shipping charges for those parts. A reputable online distributor will provide you with a shipping quote before you place your order.

5. Easy Search Capabilities. There’s nothing more frustrating than not being able to find the Ford parts or accessories that you need. The online distributor that you choose should give you easy search capabilities. Ideally, it should start with giving you the ability to enter the year, make and model of your Ford vehicle. From there, you should be able to search in a number of different ways. You should be able to, for example, browse a hierarchy, such as first selecting “Fuel System,” then drilling down to “Fuel Supply,” and then to “Fuel Pump.” You should also be able to search by keyword or part number. Furthermore, the search function should have clear instructions to help you easily access the Ford car parts that you’re seeking.

Will Ford Be Extinct Before the Polar Bears

Saturday, December 6th, 2008

Ford has for many years produced fairly good, comfortable, economical cars, that is, unless you live in the car giant’s home country. Just a quick look on Ford’s website in the U.S. backs this theory up. Take a look at their range of cars for home consumption and you will see that fuel consumption, a major feature for European cars, seems to be no more than an afterthought for their domestic market. Indeed, they now have a handy tool that allows you to view their cars by the “gas consumption”. Great you may be thinking, we’re moving in the right direction. However, on closer inspection, their idea of an economical car is one that can achieve thirty five miles per gallon. Thirty five? Yes, thirty five miles per gallon. WOW, great achievement, that should help the Polar Bears cling on to their melting ice caps for another couple of years, which makes you wonder, unless Ford and to an extent the greater American public change their ways, will the Polar Bears actually outlast Ford.

Diesel technology, almost ignored in the U.S., has moved on in leaps and bounds in the European and Japanese markets. The results of these strides forward can be seen in the plethora of vehicles that can now achieve 70 + miles per gallon. Double the economy of the domestic offerings from Ford. OK, these may be small city cars, but even the Mondeo, a stalwart for ford in Europe, can now achieve more than fifty miles per gallon on the combined cycle. Why oh why are these cars not available in Ford’s domestic marketplace? Look at Ford’s UK website and they are proud to announce their “widest range ever of low Co2 vehicles”, take a look at the U.S. site and emissions and economy seem to be an embarrassment to them. Are the things we need from a vehicle that different between the USA and Europe?

But then again, why blame Ford? Surely Ford design and build cars to suit their markets. So is it the American consumer that needs to change? This is maybe the time that the US government can add caveats to any monies given to the big three, regulating the automakers to force them to manufacture global products. Japanese and German car makers may make the odd car that suits an individual market, but overall, their cars are designed to sell globally. Thirty years ago British Leyland had a similar philosophy to America’s big three. Thirty years on and British Leyland is just a hazy memory to most. Unless Ford and to a great extent, the American public change their habits, the American auto industry may very well be on the verge of extinction.

The Ka, the Fiesta, the Mondeo, all good cars produced for the European market that don’t appear on the other side of the pond. This is economic madness. The cost of developing a new model runs into billions of dollars, yet Ford still offers a different line up for both markets. Wake up, smell the coffee, or alternatively keep going cap in hand to your government for economic bailouts that don’t address the root cause of the problem. Twenty five billion dollars will not solve the big three’s problems, it will just prolong their deaths. Long enough to outlast the polar bears? Only time will tell.

Ford to Introduce 2010 Mustang Model

Thursday, December 4th, 2008

For many years now people have looked to the Mustang to be one of the best muscle cars on the automotive market. For the past five years Ford has been using the same style and design that takes its cues from the late 1960’s model. But for the 2010 model they are switching things up.

Engineers and designers have improved the aerodynamics for the 2010 Mustang and redesigned many things. The basic theme of the Mustang has not been lost and still stays true to the inset headlamps and forward canted grille. The turn signals though have been repositioned into the pocket with the headlamps and seem to be slightly smaller.

The hood has been re-contoured and has been given the “power dome” in the center of it. When you look at the edged you can see that the hood and the fender have been partially concave to leave a ridge that travels back to the A-pillar. The entire leading edge of the hoods now is able to curve down to help the airflow around the nose and over the top of the vehicle.

One of the things that people did not like about the 2005 model was the interior because it was made with plastic and rather cheap materials. That is why in the 2010 model Ford got rid of these materials and instead opted for an aluminum dash and trim. It is now smooth and looks much more sophisticated.

Ford carried over the components for the drive train and suspension to this model. However, they did make some improvements on the V8 GT model. Paul Randle - the chief engineer - stated that the most current Mustang Bullitt has been labeled the best Mustang because it has the right amount of power and handling. That is why they chose it to be the baseline for the brand new GT model.

The 2010 Mustang GT will keep the three valve 4.6 liter V8 engine. It is now able to push out 315 horsepower and 325 pound-ft of torque. The air intake has been redesigned so that the fresh air will be drawn from behind the grille instead of from the wheel wall. The duct from the air filter box all the way to the throttle body has been redesigned and straightened to help reduce flow restriction. To make for a quieter ride they have added new sound installation.

There is one new feature that Ford will be adding to the 2010 Mustang. Electronic stability control will now become a standard feature on all models. It will default on the car. On the V6 Mustang model drivers will be given the option to turn this feature off. While the V6 model can switch it to a performance mode. The 2010 Mustang was debuted at the LA Auto Show and will go on sale in the middle of December.

2003 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra Review

Thursday, December 4th, 2008

A wise man sitting in the seat of a ford mustang once said “For this is wisdom - to love and live, To take what fate, To ask no question, to make no prayer, To kiss the lips and caress the hair, Speed passion’s ebb as we greet its flow, To have and to hold, and, in time let go.” Many of you may read this quote think about how beautiful it is, but I think the only way you could truly understand this quote is if you are sitting in a Ford Mustang.

In 1993 Ford had a brilliant idea to create a special in-house team that will focus on pure power and performance. They named the group the Special Vehicle Team and for years it was the only one of its kind. Chief engineer for Ford SVT was John Coletti who was able to push out some of the best and most powerful cars on the market.

In 2003 Coletti had completed his 10th year in operation of SVT and sold 100,000 high performance cars. This included the SVT Lightning and the fourth generation SVT Cobra Mustang. In order to celebrate this milestone they created one of the highest rated horsepower and torque Mustangs that they could during that time. The total cost of this special edition Cobra was $34,750 with the convertible costing $38,850.

The 2003 SVT Cobra Mustang is built with the four-valve aluminum heads that can also be found on the Mustang Mach 1 - but it is also built with an Eaton Roots-type supercharger. This engine pushes out 390 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 390 pound-ft of torque at 3500 rpm.

It also comes with a T-56 six speed manual transmission, bigger tires, improved brakes, and stiffer rear spring that can handle more power. The interior is finished with some brushed aluminum accents, heavily bolstered Nudo leather bucket seats, and titanium colored gauges.

Will the Ford Focus save Ford?

Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008

This year Ford are looking to change their appearance as a company. Gone are the plans for larger cars/SUV’s as the market is slowly declining. In its place we will see a drive on smaller more environmentally friendly vehicles. The change is thought to be linked with petrol price increases and the general public’s awareness of their global footprint.

Ford’s top sellers over previous years have been the Explorer sport and the F-150 Pickup. Sales have taken a swift nose-dive and the companies attention has turned to the Ford Focus. Freshly redesigned this at the start of this year the Ford Focus has enjoyed a large increase in sales, particularly in Canada where there has been a recent monthly increase by 18%.

Whilst not completely wiping the slate clean with the new design the Ford Focus 2008 has become a bit more “minimalist.” The 3 & 5 door hatchbacks are no longer, leaving the 2 door coupe and the 4 door sedan. Ford have large expectations for the new model and are hoping to revive the glory days of 1999 when the car won Car of the Year in North America and Canada. Since then the car has fallen behind such makes as Honda, Mazda and Corolla. Maybe 2008 is the year for a turnaround in fortune?

So what are the changes? The new Focus looks bolder with a stronger exterior look. The interior is comfortable, spacious and quiet with the seating and panel also being updated. An attractive blue lighting effect has also been added to the instrument cluster, window switches, door lock and steering wheel.

However the biggest and definitely most interesting change to the Focus is the Microsoft designed and totally Ford exclusive Sync System. This enables the driver to voice activate their phones, mp3 players, radio and steering wheel.

The car is lighter than previous models and comes with a 2 litre Duratec DOHC four cylinder engine. Efficiency has been improved with a modern air intake system combined with cooling system, giving you a bit more power for your money.

Out on the road the Focus is smooth whilst giving you a relaxed and quiet drive. Steering is receptive and the cars controls are all placed within close proximity to ensure a simple and easy drive.
